Colorado Avenue Bridge Closure
Bridge Closed extended through Friday, November 20
This fall, the Parks District plans to extend the Deschutes River Trail system from the Old Mill District downstream approximately 2,200 feet along the east river bank to the existing paved trail at Miller’s Landing Park. Construction of the trail system is anticipated to begin in September and be completed in mid-December. To improve the safety for trail users, the project will include a new 14-foot wide pedestrian undercrossing tunnel at Colorado Avenue. Construction of the undercrossing will require full closure of Colorado Avenue Bridge at the Deschutes River, October 5-November 20 (new end date). All traffic will be detoured during this time and travelers are advised to use alternate routes.
A portion of the City of Bend’s Colorado Lift Station sewer line project also requires work at the bridge. In an effort to minimize traffic impacts, the City and the District have coordinated project construction schedules so that both projects will occur during the bridge closure. The City’s work during this period will also include construction of underground utilities and associated pavement restoration east of the bridge to Wall Street.
