Art and Craft: Is there a line between fine art and contemporary craft? Six artists re-imagine basic craft traditions on view in May.

Studio Practice & Artist in Residency

STUDIO PRACTICE
Atelier, is a French word meaning “an artist studio or workshop,” it is a place where students learn directly from master artist teachers. Dedicated to building artists’ skills and techniques, A6 has designed “studio practice” offerings to inspire creativity for emerging and professional artists who wish to improve their techniques, experiment and explore.

ARTIST RESIDENCY
The Artist-in-Residence program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with an accomplished artist in a workshop format.  Atelier 6000 residencies enrich the educational process, open invigorating dialogue and provide inroads to learning that are creative and inspirational.

Classes

THE ART OF THE BOOK
Book classes will give students the opportunity to experiment with beginning print projects. Discussion centers on the development of “new” ideas for your work and encourages “out of the box” thinking. You will garner a basic understanding of the elements of design and enjoy your exploration into book design, collage, calligraphy, printmaking and page to page composition and construction.

PRINTMAKING AND PRINTS

Designed for emerging and professional artists who are not afraid to experiment and wish to improve their techniques. Work with various tools and print processes and produce a portfolios of original works.  Class discussion and critiques will encourage students to articulate their ideas. Includes open studio time for class members once a week.

The Working Questions
Embodying the spirit of the traditional atelier, A6 explores questions of interest, new ideas and approaches in printmaking to assist artists in strengthening their relationship with their work and troubleshooting obstacles in technique.

Open to the public, Atelier 6000 provides a well- equipped studio, community classes, college instruction, workshops, artist residencies and studio rental space for art groups, classes, critique space and specialty interest groups, i.e. book clubs and technology groups. Atelier 6000 brings together students from all lifestyles, from absolute beginners to professional artists, to create and develop works of art exclusively by hand.
