A Prairie Home Companion has been a public radio mainstay since 1974. It is heard by more than 4 million listeners on some 600 public radio stations nationwide. Reaching back to 1974, A Prairie Home Companion’s roots lie in a research piece Garrison Keillor was doing on the Grand Ole Opry. From that piece a spark was launched into a radio variety show that’s been broadcasting for over three decades. Perhaps the best known feature of the show is Garrison’s News from Lake Wobegon, the weekly story-telling monologue in which he recounts the stories of the citizens of the fictional Lake Wobegon. The feature has spawned several bestselling story collections. Long a staple of Public Broadcasting radio stations across America, this summer finds Garrison hitting the road with his usual cast plus special guests for a round of his Summer of Love Tour.
