National Theatre Live

National Theatre Live is bringing the best of British theatre broadcast live to cinemas around the world.  From the heart of London, each performance will be captured live in high-definition and broadcast via satellite giving audiences an extraordinary close-up view of the world-class productions that take center stage at the National Theatre of Great Britain. Collaborators a dark funny comedy will be presented on Thursday, December 1 at 7pm.

Collaborators is set in Moscow, 1938, a dangerous place to have a sense of humor; even more a sense of freedom.  Mikhail Bulgakov, has both, even while living among dissidents and stalked by secret police.  Mikhail’s offered a poisoned chalice: a commission to write a play about Stalin to celebrate his sixtieth birthday.  Inspired by historical fact, Collaborators embarks on a surreal journey into the fevered imagination of the writer as he loses himself in a macabre and disturbingly funny relationship with Stalin, the omnipotent subject, of his drama. John Hodge’s blistering new play depicts a lethal game of cat and mouse which scrutinizes the appalling compromises and humiliations inflicted on artists by those in power.  Visit Fathom Events for a complete list of the National Theatre Live plays in movie theaters nationwide.
