Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Oregon
Polar Plunge is Special Olympics Oregon’s most unique and daring fundraising event, and we invite you join the tradition! Individuals and teams, alongside Special Olympics athletes, law enforcement volunteers and hundreds of community members experience heartwarming and bone chilling extremes as they take the plunge into icy Oregon waters in the height of winter. The tradition began in 2007 when 190 brave souls plunged into the Deschutes River. Since then, nearly 3,500 people have taken the plunge in Bend, Portland, Medford, Eugene and Corvallis. Visit Polar Plunge Bend for more information and to register for the event.
Every Polar Plunge event is open to the public; participants must raise a minimum of $50, while spectators watch for free. Proceeds from Polar Plunge Oregon will go towards Special Olympics Oregon’s mission: to deliver sports training and athletic competition to thousands of athletes in local communities state-wide during the winter, summer and fall sports seasons.
The mission of Special Olympics Oregon is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
