FRIDAY, JUNE 4

  • First Friday Art Walk

    Old Mill District

    The First Friday Gallery Walks are held the first Friday of every month from 5-9pm, and the scope of the event has grown every year. Now galleries in downtown Bend, Northwest Crossing, and the Old Mill District open their doors for these special monthly evenings.  Most are already open seven days a week, but First Fridays are a special gathering for art lovers.  Many participating galleries bring in live music, new exhibits, lectures, demonstrations, plus the ever-popular food and wine samplings for their First Fridays.

    Take the Free Artwalk Shuttle offering a continuous loop approximately every 50-60 minutes.  Service from 5-9pm.  Station 3 is located in the Old Mill District between Lahaina Galleries and REI and picks up at 5:40pm+/- and heads to Atelier 6000 and then downtown.

    Make sure to stop in at Atelier 6000, Lahaina Galleries, Lubbesmeyer Studio & Gallery and Tumalo Art Co. for new works of art on view.

    Atelier 6000 is a studio workshop exhibiting hand-pulled prints and handmade books.

    Lubbesmeyer Studio & Gallery highlights the extraordinary fiber art created by the Lubbesmeyer sisters.

  • Balloons Over Bend

    Northwest Community Balloons Over Bend.  Hot Air Balloons launch early each morning Friday-Sunday at 6:30am +/- with over 20 balloons.  Night Glow on Saturday evening, June 5 at 8:30pm.

    During the day on Saturday-Sunday, June 5-6 enjoy live performances, a children's festival area with interactive children and family activities, and various vendors (from 11-8pm on Saturday and Sunday from 11-6pm) in the West Side Parking lot across the footbridge from the Shops. There will also be Street Painting Festival on the footbridge.  Visit Balloons Over Bend for more information.

  • Stream Stewardship Day

    A special day for watershed stewards of all ages to get their hands dirty and feet wet.  Come join the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and our partners to help steward our local rivers and streams.

    Stream Stewardship Day seeks to bring together enthusiastic community members from around Central Oregon to actively steward our local streams and riparian areas.  Volunteers of all ages are invited to join the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and our 12 site hosts in a day of active, hands-on streamside stewardship activities. After fueling up with coffee, pastries, and the spirit of volunteerism, folks will be directed to help with weed removal, instream or riparian clean-up, or streambank planting activities at one of the many different stewardship sites along Tumalo Creek, the Deschutes River, or Whychus Creek.

    Printing Solar  Etched by sunlight and treated in water, solar plate is a unique and distinctive printmaking technique. The printmaking plate has a polymer photosensitive surface attached to a steel backing. To achieve a wide range of printed effects artists make prints by working directly onto the plate with printing inks, or create images by exposing the plate through a transparent film, or utilize opaque drawing materials, photographs or photocopies. The solar plate holds incredible detail producing images with depth. Mixed-media artists and painters who wish to explore and expand their artistry will be able to include solar etching in their work.  Workshop: Saturday, June 19, 10 am – 3 pm / Sunday, June 20, 10 am – 2 pm  All levels. $150 + $35 studio fee Instructor: Barbara Mason

     Decorate your bike, learn bike safety and join the parade over the footbridge, through the shops and circle back along the river trail. Parking lot will be clsoed for the event and reopen afterwards.     The Country Music Hall of Famer is embarking this Spring and Summer on a full US tour that will bring him and his backing band The Strangers to Bend. Haggard’s live set comprises of a mix of his classic hits from the  60’s and 70’s as well as newer material  from his new album I Am What I Am.  Throughout the years, Haggard's music has remained some of the most consistently interesting and inventive in country music. Not only have his recordings remained fresh, but each subsequent generation of country singers shows a great debt to his work. That fact stands as a testament to his great talent even more than his induction to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

    The camps are designed to help children build skills in ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture and collage.  Each week offers four different camps from Mondays to Thursdays.  Numerous classes for adults also available on-line.

    Classes are designed for ages 2-4 (with parent), 4-6, 6-8, and 8-12 with one wheel throwing class for ages 12-16.  Summer classes run June 21-September 2 from 9am-12pm or 1-4pm.

  • USA Cycling Road Racing National Championships

    The USA Cycling Road Racing National Championships June 22-27 in Bend.  Six days of world-class road racing will decide the national champions in road racing, time trial and criterium for elite men and women, U23 men and women, and junior men and women.  Watch one of the many races in town: Awbrey Butte, Tetherow, criteriums in NorthWest Crossing and Downtown Bend and a Skyliners time trail.

    Packet pickup with happen on June 21 at the Old Mill District in in Suite 429 upstairs above Helly Hansen and each evening in the same location for the following days event.  Check out one of the many Award Ceremonies Center Plaza (by the foot bridge) in the Old Mill District.

  • Weekend Kayak Camps for Kids

    Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe

    Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe is offering two four-day camps, and three weekend kayak camps this summer for youth ages 8 - 16 that will progress through the basics of whitewater kayaking. Paddlers have their choice of attending the July 12 – 15 session or the August 9 – 12 session and the cost is $225. The camp runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day (except Thursday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.) and kids bring their own lunch and return home at night. Shorter weekend camps are also offered June 26-27, July 24-25 and August 28-29 for $175. All kayaking equipment and transportation is included for both camps and all meet at Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe each morning.

    The weekend sessions are a perfect fit for those interested in the sport, who are looking for an abbreviated introduction to the above skills and experiences.
