  • Summer Art Camps at Art Station

    The camps are designed to help children build skills in ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture and collage.  Each week offers four different camps from Mondays to Thursdays.  Numerous classes for adults also available on-line.

    Classes are designed for ages 2-4 (with parent), 4-6, 6-8, and 8-12 with one wheel throwing class for ages 12-16.  Summer classes run June 21-September 2 from 9am-12pm or 1-4pm.

  • First Friday Art Walk

    The First Friday Gallery Walks are held the first Friday of every month from 5-9pm, and the scope of the event has grown every year. Now galleries in downtown Bend, Northwest Crossing, and the Old Mill District open their doors for these special monthly evenings.  Most are already open seven days a week, but First Fridays are a special gathering for art lovers.  Many participating galleries bring in live music, new exhibits, lectures, demonstrations, plus the ever-popular food and wine samplings for their First Fridays.

    Take the Free Artwalk Shuttle offering a continuous loop approximately every 50-60 minutes.  Service from 5-9pm.  Station 3 is located in the Old Mill District between Lahaina Galleries and REI and picks up at 5:40pm+/- and heads to Atelier 6000 and then downtown.

    Make sure to stop in at Atelier 6000, Lahaina Galleries, Lubbesmeyer Studio & Gallery and Tumalo Art Co. for new works of art on view.

    Atelier 6000 is a studio workshop exhibiting hand-pulled prints and handmade books.

    Lubbesmeyer Studio & Gallery highlights the extraordinary fiber art created by the Lubbesmeyer sisters.

  • Cool & Hot exhibition opens at Tumalo Art Co.

    New exhibition Cool & Hot for August featuring exquisite blown glass by Nancy Becker and paintings and photographs by Mary Marquiss.  Nancy's work is inspired by the colors of the land and sky making vessels, platters and natural forms in glass.  Mary's painting are images of her recent trip to Provence capturing the beautiful colbalt sky and rust hill towns of Southern France.

    Join us for First Friday, August 6 from 5-9pm.  Light refreshments and wine will be served.

  • Shine exhibition opens at Atelier 6000

    We are celebrating the sun in our new Shine exhibition.  Solar powered art (solar prints) and small paintings by local artists hang the walls and an enlightened array of jewelry by Sandy Anderson, Steve Frandson, Amy Royce, Denise Rowcraft, and Beth Yoe brighten the gallery.  Join is on First Friday from 5:30-8:30pm.

    Atelier 6000 is located at 389 S.W. Scalehouse Court, Suite 120 (off the Wilson roundabout and behind the new ODS building on Bond.)

  • Deschutes River Conservancy Race for the River

    Grab your floaties, kayaks, canoes and paddle boards to Race For the River.  We are launching a brand new event this year that is sure to be a community favorite. Starting at Riverbend Park, racers will vie for the number one position in several different heats ending in the Les Schwab Amphitheater. Prizes awarded in each category and Ruff Wear will be giving away Float Coats for all participating entering with their dogs.

    Entry fees are $15 per person, $20 with your dog and $50 for corporate teams (5-6 people).

    Enjoy live music from Little Fish and Brent Alan and His Funky Friends while sipping on a specially crafted DRC beer, Race for the River Ale, from the Deschutes Brewery. Feast on great food from Café Yumm!, Hola and Allyson’s Kitchen and learn about our local watershed with a variety of interactive activities for the whole family in Center Plaza by the footbridge in the Old Mill District from 11am-4pm.

    St. Charles Free Summer Sunday Concerts--Dangermuffin (americana/roots rock/reggae)  

    Dangermuffin is an eclectic trio, providing a fresh perspective on American roots music. Seamlessly melding the feel of a back porch blues band with dance-floor grooves, their original yet familiar sound pleases crowds of all ages. What sets them ahead of the pack is the refreshingly magnetic songwriting of Dan Lotti with his strong, articulate vocals frame each song perfectly, creating a stout foundation for the tasteful poly-groove jams and improvisational passages. The music has an inventive and fresh quality, while still retaining that organic Americana truthfulness. 

    Dangermuffin's fanbase has skyrocketing, with a strong regional presence in the Southeast plus explosive tours in the West, including an appearance at the Jazz Aspen Festival opening for Widespread Panic and Xavier Rudd.  Dangermuffin just released a new album titled Moonscapes in April 2010. 

MONDAY, AUGUST 9 - THURSDAY, AUGUST 12

  • Four Day Kayak Camps for Kids

    Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe

    Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe is offering two four-day camps, and three weekend kayak camps this summer for youth ages 8 - 16 that will progress through the basics of whitewater kayaking. Paddlers have their choice of attending the July 12 – 15 session or the August 9 – 12 session and the cost is $225. The camp runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day (except Thursday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.) and kids bring their own lunch and return home at night. Shorter weekend camps are also offered June 26-27, July 24-25 and August 28-29 for $175. All kayaking equipment and transportation is included for both camps and all meet at Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe each morning.

    The weekend sessions are a perfect fit for those interested in the sport, who are looking for an abbreviated introduction to the above skills and experiences.

    For the four-day camp, the first day will be spent on the Cascade Lakes learning basic paddle strokes and playing kayaking games that will help improve paddling skills. Tuesday will be spent learning bracing, self-rescues and rolling techniques in the pool and then the group will move onto sections of the river in Bend for the afternoon. On Wednesday the class will take their boats down the Deschutes from Warm Springs to Trout Creek. During this time on the river, kids will learn how to control their boat in the current and to maneuver from one part of the river to another. Skills include moving in and out of eddies, surfing waves and ferrying across the river. Kids will spend their final day of camp out on the McKenzie bringing all their skills together and enjoying one of the most beautiful stretches of river in Central Oregon.

    August 14 -  Men's and Women'sTournament Casting Division (8am-4pm)  Watch the tournament and professional casters show their stuff.
    August 15 - Team Casting Competition (8am-4pm)
    August 15 - Kids Tournament (8am-4pm)  Two divisions (Ages 6-12  and  Ages13-17 )

    Fundraising activities include: Amatuer Casting, Pro-Guide Casting, Tournament Casting and Team Casting.  Other activities include: Kids Area, Casting Clinics, Auction Raffles, Presentations, Conservation and much more!  All weekend long enjoy in-store fishing specials, free casting instruction and free gift cards and drawings.

    $25 to enter or $40 for teams.  All entry forms and checks need to be received no later than July 31, 2010.  Prizes include two 12 ft. kayaks, gift cards and various cash prizes. Orvis donates 5% of pre-tax profits annually towards conservation efforts throughout the USA.  Part of the proceeds from this event will go to Trout Unlimited Deschutes River Chapter.

    Back by popular demand, the Sixth Annual Bend Brew Fest celebrates Bend's bent for brews.
