Sno-Park, Oregon State Park and Christmas Tree Permits

Need a permit?  Stop by the Central Oregon Visitors Association for one of these permits.

Christmas Tree Permits

$5 each

For many families, it is an annual tradition to brew up some hot chocolate, wrap the scarves up tight, and travel deep into the woods in search of that perfect Christmas tree.  Christmas tree permits are sold for many national forests, making for a fun family outing. Permits are available now and are $5 each, and you may then cut a tree from the designated areas in the district for which the permit was issued.  You may buy up to five permits per household, and cut trees up to twelve feet. Some restrictions apply, such as cutting trees along certain roads, and near campgrounds, trails, streams, and lakes. Before you go, be sure to call each Ranger District for particular details.

Choose and cut your tree early in the day and leave the forest before it gets dark – which can sneak up on you in the forest this time of year.  Always remember that forest roads are not plowed, so carry tire chains, shovels, and tow chains. Dress warmly and take extra dry clothes, and bring lots of hot drinks to warm you up after you are done.  As always when venturing into the forest, carry plenty of extra food and water. Most of all, have a great, safe, fun time while visiting Oregon’s forests!
