Classes, Evening Sessions and Pickin’ & Paddlin’ Music Series
Basic Skills Kayak Class
Every Saturday, June – August. Learn all the kayaking basics like gear, strokes, safety and Central Oregon’s best kayaking spots. The class is taught in Tumalo Creek’s beautiful outdoor classroom on the back lawn and in the Deschutes River.
Full Immersion White Water Class
On select weekends June-August. If you are new to whitewater kayaking and are looking to acquire the skills you need to start running Class II and III rapids, this is the class for you. All necessary gear is provided.
Basic Skills Stand Up Paddleboard Class
SUP classes are held every Sunday, June - August. This class will teach you everything you need to enjoy the world’s fastest growing water sport on your own. You will learn about gear, board types, stroke technique and safety.
Stand Up Paddleboard
Women’s SUP Nights are every Monday and Thursday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in June, July and August. The women's night was started to encourage more women to try to out the sport in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Gear is rented to participants at half-price for the two-hour session. Locals co-ed SUP Nights are held every Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in June, July and August.
Pickin’ & Paddlin’
Throughout the summer, Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe hosts four nights of live music and boat demos on the back lawn behind the store, on the banks of the Deschutes River. This event takes place the last Wednesday of every month (Blackstrap on June 29, The Sweet Harlots on July 27, Moon Mountain Ramblers on August 31, and Pitchfork Revolution on September 21.)
From 4– 7 p.m. Tumalo Creek’s fleet of 50 demo boats will be available to try for free with plenty of paddling experts on hand to answer any questions and get boaters comfortable out on the water. The music starts at 7p.m. and features the best of Bend’s local bluegrass and folk scene.
