High Desert Museum: Latest Attractions

Railroads transformed the High Desert—its landscape, people and culture. In 1865, there were 3,200 miles of rack west of the Mississippi River.  By 1890, that number had reached 70,000.

The exhibition includes historic photographs, artifacts, tools for working on the railroad, works of art and a model train. On view through July 27.


In the Dark: Nocturnal Animals Explore the mysteries of the dark and see how the High Desert comes to life after nightfall. Open through September 7.

Migration on the Wing Explore the fascinating world of aerial migrations and learn how birds travel thousands of miles and return, year after year, to the same location. July 12—January 25.
